Movie Week: 11/1/08 to 11/7/08

Sorry I haven’t been reviewing as many movies the last few times. Fall is here so that usually means there is only one movie a week I actually want to see. Then there are also the Oscar contenders but I see those when I’m in the mood for a heavy movie. So expect some late reviews on movies such as “Changeling” or “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” or maybe even “Australia.” One thing I can do is tell you what’s out and based on trailer hype whether I’d see it or not. For instance:

“Soul Men.” I’m going to see it so expect a late review but if you’re asking yourself “Why?” one name, Samuel L. Jackson. If he’s in the movie it’s gonna kick a little ass or least be muther fuckin’ entertaining!!

“The Haunting of Molly Hartley.” You like “Exorcist” or “the Omen?” Well then maybe you’ll like this. Personally, I’m not gonna bother. Not much of a horror or scary movie fan and it takes a lot to make me interested in seeing one. This movie doesn’t got it. Plus Halloween is over! Scary movies are lame after Halloween.

“Pride and Glory.” Doesn’t look like I’m gonna see it. Which is shame too since I was a big Norton fan and would at one time see anything him in it. Just a shame to see that’s not the case anymore. I’m sure he was good in it but the preview just couldn’t sell me.

“The Secret Life of Bees.” Not a documentary... Pretty much all that needs to be said. If you’re a chick... I dunno maybe.

“The Duchess.” Movie starring Kira Knightly about the Duchess of Devonshire... Someone is watching it, just not me.

“Madagascar 2.” I’m not a kid and this cartoon does not have the comedic draw to get me in. Take your kids, nephews, nieces, or you little brother or sister; I’m staying home.

“High School Musical 3.” There are two other movies?!

“Rachel Getting Married.” Chick flick and since I lack a chick to see it with or to drag me out with her to see it, it will remain unseen by me.

AND NOW FOR SOME CURRENT EVENTS

Role Models - New movie out starring Seann William Scott and Paul Rudd. It’s about two friends who get sentenced to community service which is mentoring young misguided children. Seann William Scott delivered another entertaining performance as yet another heavy Alpha Male stereotype. Paul Rudd was hilariously entertaining, as always, playing the plucky straight man. The movie itself was fun with a not only believable but engaging story. There were at times the movie got a little sappy but the writers or director or even the editor did a good job at letting not too much time go by without a joke. The characters played by Rudd and Scott were awesome in that high and mighty “High Fidelity” sort of way but way cooler and snappy. I personally enjoyed the movie, but do not plan on seeing it again anytime soon. It may be a good movie to rent one night or waste an evening on HBO for, but does not earn the honor of entering my collection. If you want a good date movie this would be the perfect movie to take your girl to both for you and her. It’s got all the humor would want and it’s got the semi-sappy story for her. You’ll both leave feeling entertained.
